About Us

Alonzo King LINES Ballet and Dominican University of California are partners in the formation of an exciting new, four-year Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance degree program.

Combining the highly acclaimed dance training and philosophy of one of the nation’s foremost dance institutions with the comprehensive liberal arts education and social values of the Dominican tradition, the LINES/Dominican BFA in Dance offers students an unparalleled opportunity to discover themselves as artists and human beings.

Housed in the esteemed Humanities Department on the Dominican campus in San Rafael and in the spacious dance studios of Alonzo King LINES Dance Center, the program provides a comprehensive general education in the liberal arts, including specialized courses in Dance History and Music presented by the best of Dominican’s faculty.

The Dance Curriculum emphasizes Ballet (Western Classical Dance) as its foundational language, complimented and augmented with extensive training in past and current forms of Modern dance, ethnic dance studies, Improvisation and Composition. The dance curriculum includes significant studies in the choreography of Alonzo King, as well as the work of contemporary artists from within the vibrant Bay Area dance community and abroad. With its direct relationship to one of the foremost choreographers of our time, the BFA in Dance program stands in a unique position, offering students access to the process and environment in which current thought in the art form is being shaped.

The LINES/Dominican BFA in Dance strives to develop dancers of exceptional skill and artistry. Students acquire the skills and knowledge necessary for a professional career in today’s dance world while also gaining the life long benefits of a liberal arts education.
