Summer 2009 Program Dates
In order to better serve our students, we have restructured our summer program.
Session One: June 6 - July 10
5 weeks long, geared toward advanced/pre-professional level dancers ages 17-24
Session Two: July 14 - August 8
4 weeks long, geared toward intermediate/advanced level dancers ages 11-16
Age is used as a general guideline. Each student will be evaluated and placed in the session that best matches their maturity and technical level.
This intense program is designed for aspiring artists ages 11-24 with a focus on exposing young artists to process-oriented work that explores a variety of dance techniques with ballet as their core discipline. A high priority is placed on educating dancers on the care and maintenance of their bodies while honing their individual voices.
The first two days of each session consist of placement classes and therapeutic assessment. Students dance six days a week, typically with Saturday off and a half-day on Sunday.
Participants of each session will benefit from a small student-to-teacher ratio and experience a rigorous schedule with a minimum of 40 hours per week of study that includes: Ballet, Pointe, Men’s Class, Partnering, Improvisation, Modern, LINES Repertoire, and GYROTONIC®. All students will have the privilege of training with Alonzo King in addition to current and former members of LINES Ballet and a diverse range of master artists. Students of both sessions will have the unique opportunity to work with choreographers from around the world on the creation of new work to be performed at the end of each session.
Students are given the opportunity to work intimately with Alonzo King in a master class style setting during one week of the summer intensive.
