SUMMARY:Movement Exploration Workshop with Adji Cissoko
DESCRIPTION:Alonzo King LINES Ballet is proud to present this workshop on October 25\, made possible through the generosity of Victoria Zitrin\, a longtime supporter and cherished member of the LINES Ballet family. Victoria developed this initiative alongside Adji Cissoko and Madeline DeVries\, bringing together vision\, artistry\, and mentorship to make it a reality. \nAdji Cissoko will lead the movement workshop\, sharing her artistry and firsthand experience of the LINES philosophy directly with participants. Victoria will provide the leadership\, mentorship\, and sponsorship that have helped bring this experience to life. \n \nStep into LINES Ballet’s process… and join the conversation. \n\nFind freedom in movement and confidence in leadership.\nExplore the question: How can movement inform my leadership?\n\nWorkshop Structure \n\nWarm-Up – Prepare the body and mind for movement.\nCreation – Engage in guided improvisation and choreographic exploration.\nDiscussion – Join a thought-provoking conversation with community leaders.\n\nWorkshop Philosophy\nThis workshop is an opportunity to engage with the artists\, thought leaders\, and community members in the room. Movement exploration isn’t just about dance technique—it’s about artistic discovery\, freedom in movement\, and creating space for meaningful conversation. \nThrough movement and an open-circle discussion\, participants will explore what it means to lead in our community and consider how movement can inform how we lead\, connect\, and move through the world. \nParticipants are invited to: \n\nExplore their creativity\nEmbrace their artistry\nBuild community\nInspire and encourage one another\nFind freedom in movement and power in leadership\n\nP.S. Your $150 ticket not only reserves your place at the workshop\, but also supports Alonzo King LINES Ballet. The fair market value of the experience is $50\, and the remaining $100 may be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Thank you for your generous support! \nIf cost is a barrier\, sponsored tickets are available. Please contact madeline@linesballet.org. \n\nPhotography: Alonzo King LINES Ballet | Adji Cissoko | © Madeline DeVries\, Richard Termine

SUMMARY:LINES Ballet in New Orleans
DESCRIPTION:Join our LINES Ballet company dancers in New Orleans\, LA performing at Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts\, with live symphonic accompaniment! \nGrounded on more than 40 years of thought-provoking dance\, master choreographer Alonzo King’s unique artistic vision honors and advances the classical form—the linear\, mathematical\, and geometrical principles deeply rooted in the East-West continuum. \nThis winter\, our company honors legendary spiritual leader\, composer\, pianist\, and harpist Alice Coltrane and the imaginative storytelling of composer Maurice Ravel through Alonzo King’s choreography. \nKing has been mesmerized by Alice Coltrane’s music since he was a child—he choreographed one of his very first pieces to her composition. He later returned to her body of work to create this ballet as part of “The Year of Alice” in 2024\, a nationwide tribute to her legacy that included performances and exhibits by LINES Ballet\, Impulse! Records\, Detroit Jazz Festival\, Hammer Museum\, and The New York Historical Society. The San Francisco Chronicle declared Ode to Alice Coltrane to be “a conversation thrilling to behold” that “lifts us… to a higher bliss\,” while dance critic Jen Norris proclaimed the piece “rich in kinetic brilliance.” \nThe performance will also feature Alonzo King’s recent collaboration with the San Francisco Symphony. Here our dancers delve into the enchanting world of Ravel’s 1912 suite Ma mère l’Oye (Mother Goose)\, infusing the music with a new interpretation. “I’m not trying to recreate Mother Goose fairy tales\,” says King. “My intention is to unearth the deeper allegorical meanings beneath the fairy tales and illustrate those with dance.” \n \n\nPhotography: Alonzo King LINES Ballet | Dancers: Theo Duff-Grant with Maël Amatoul and Amanda Smith | © Chris Hardy

SUMMARY:LINES Ballet in Dallas
DESCRIPTION:Join our LINES Ballet company dancers LIVE with renowned vocalist Lisa Fischer in Dallas\, TX performing at Winspear Opera House. Grounded on more than 40 years of thought-provoking dance\, master choreographer Alonzo King’s unique artistic vision honors and advances the classical form—the linear\, mathematical\, and geometrical principles deeply rooted in the East-West continuum. Witness King’s creativity in his sought-after work\, Deep River\, a collaboration created with MacArthur Fellow composer Jason Moran and Grammy Award-winning vocalist Lisa Fischer. \n \nDeep River is a call to keep hope\, to make the lotus bloom in the mud\, and to look at each other as a family of souls. Created over three years and throughout the pandemic\, Deep River is a piece written with the heart\, a love letter to a world writhing in pain\, served by exceptional dancers. \n“Deep River soars along a highway to the heavens\, taking us on a journey from chaos and despair to revelation and deliverance.” —See Chicago Dance \n\nPhotography: Alonzo King LINES Ballet | Dancers: Adji Cissoko and Shuaib Elhassan | © Richard Termine

SUMMARY:LINES Ballet in Modesto
DESCRIPTION:Join our LINES Ballet company dancers in Modesto\, CA performing at the Gallo Center for the Arts. Grounded on more than 40 years of thought-provoking dance\, master choreographer Alonzo King’s unique artistic vision honors and advances the classical form—the linear\, mathematical\, and geometrical principles deeply rooted in the East-West continuum. \nPROGRAM \nAlonzo King LINES Ballet is pleased to present LEGACY\, a meditation on lineage\, memory\, and the unseen forces that shape who we are\, featuring choreography by Alonzo King and an original score by Grammy Award-winning musician\, bassist\, and vocalist esperanza spalding. \nUpon its sold-out premiere in April 2026\, the San Francisco Chronicle hailed LEGACY as “a rare kind of magic…that leaves a sense of compositional just-rightness\,” while Critical Dance described the dancers of LINES Ballet as “technically astonishing” with “an air of exquisite elegance.” Intimate yet expansive\, LEGACY offers audiences a deeply human experience of connection\, continuity\, and home. \nThe program will also feature Alonzo King’s critically acclaimed Ode to Alice Coltrane\, which has thrilled audiences around the world. King has been mesmerized by Alice Coltrane’s music since he was a child—he choreographed one of his very first pieces to her composition. The San Francisco Chronicle declared Ode to Alice Coltrane to be “a conversation thrilling to behold” that “lifts us… to a higher bliss\,” while dance critic Jen Norris proclaimed the piece “rich in kinetic brilliance.” \nJoin LINES Ballet in celebrating two of the musical world’s most iconic women artists\, whose visionary approaches continue to influence generations of musicians and listeners. \n\n \n\nPhotography: Alonzo King LINES Ballet | Dancers: Joshua Francique & Maël Amatoul | © Chris Hardy

SUMMARY:LINES Ballet in Palm Desert
DESCRIPTION:Join our LINES Ballet company dancers in Palm Desert\, CA performing at the McCallum Theatre. \n\n \n\nPhotography: Alonzo King LINES Ballet | Dancer: Mikal Gilbert & Company | © Chris Hardy

DESCRIPTION:Join our LINES Ballet company dancers in Orange\, CA performing at the Musco Center for the Arts at Chapman University! \nGrounded on more than 40 years of thought-provoking dance\, master choreographer Alonzo King’s unique artistic vision honors and advances the classical form—the linear\, mathematical\, and geometrical principles deeply rooted in the East-West continuum. \n \n\nPhotography: Alonzo King LINES Ballet | Dancers: Tatum Quiñónez and Company | © Chris Hardy
