How to Audition

Alonzo King LINES Ballet | Training Program

AUDITION SEASON 2021 BEGINS IN JANUARY 2021

REQUIRED MATERIALS

All prospective students must submit the following materials:

  • Headshot | Size 4×6″
    Write your full name, date of birth, and age on the back and bring a copy to your audition.

 

  • Letter of Intent
    Describe your aspirations and intentions as an artist. How do you believe the Training program will help you achieve these goals?

 

  • Dance Resume
    Please include your full contact information at the top of the page.

 

  • Contemporary Solo | Video Link
    Submit a current 2-minute video link of your contemporary and/or improvisational movement. No mailed hard-copies will be accepted.    

 

  • Letter of Recommendation | 1 Current Dance Teacher
    Letter from at least 1 current dance teacher describing your level of skill, dedication, character or other relevant information. Teacher must submit this letter directly to:

AUDITION PROCESS

There are 4 ways to audition for the Training Program:

  • Video Audition | For Students who cannot attend in-person
  • Immersive Weekend Audition
  • National Audition Tour
  • Individually Scheduled In-Person Audition | San Francisco, CA

We highly encourage participants to attend an in-person audition. However, we understand that this may not be possible for some dancers, and so we offer the Video Audition option.

DRESS CODE: There is no dress code for the Alonzo King LINES Ballet | Training Program, however one must wear tasteful, form-fitting dance or athletic wear, no restriction of color and style. Hair must be neatly styled away from the face and neck. Ballet slippers are required for class. Although pointe work is seldom requested, bring pointe shoes.

Video Audition

REGISTRATION NOW CLOSED.
 

Students unable to attend an in-person audition may audition via video. Video auditions are accepted on a rolling basis until July 3rd, 2020.

Audition footage should be no longer than 10 minutes in length — with the main focus on your center and solo work. Please include:

  • Minimal barre work | 1 Side Only
  • Center adagio
  • Pirouettes
  • Petite allegro
  • Grand allegro
  • Pointe work | If Applicable
  • Solo | 2 minutes of contemporary and/or improvisational movement — either your choreography or someone else’s — highlighting your movement quality and artistic choices.

IMMERSIVE WEEKEND AUDITION

REGISTRATION NOW CLOSED.

Join us for a weekend in San Francisco and dive into a two-day workshop audition with our renowned Training Program faculty artists! This first-hand experience into our distinguished training will include classes in ballet, contemporary, GYROKINESIS®, repertory investigation, explorative improvisation, and contemporary partnering.


 

NATIONAL AUDITION TOUR

INDIVIDUALLY SCHEDULED AUDITION

REGISTRATION NOW CLOSED.
 

Join us at our Downtown San Francisco home on a date convenient for your schedule. Take a ballet class with one of our esteemed faculty members alongside our very own Training Program students. Classes generally occur on Monday-Friday, but are subject to space and availability.

AFTER YOUR AUDITION

Audition results are sent via email on a rolling basis. Candidates should expect to receive their results 2-4 weeks after their audition date.

Note: If you have not received an email within 4 weeks, please make sure to check all email addresses affiliated with your account and all junk mail folders for emails from training-program@linesballet.org. If you still have not received notification, please contact us. Include the student’s full name, audition location, and primary email provided at registration in your email.
