How to Audition

2019 LINES Ballet | Training Program

Register and audition today for a transformative 2 years immersed in artistic investigation, technical growth and personal discovery!

  • Acceptance to Alonzo King LINES Ballet | Training Program is by audition only.
  • Candidates must be 17 years of age at the time of the audition in order to be considered.
  • Candidates must complete their high school degree or equivalent prior to entering the program.

Please Note: Advance online registration is highly recommended.

REQUIRED MATERIALS

All prospective students must submit the following materials:

  • Headshot | Size 4×6″
    Write your full name, date of birth, and age on the back and bring a copy to your audition.

 

  • Letter of Intent
    Describe your aspirations and intentions as an artist. How do you believe the Training program will help you achieve these goals?

 

  • Dance Resume
    Please include your full contact information at the top of the page.

 

 

  • Contemporary Solo | Video Link
    Submit a current 2-minute video link of your contemporary and/or improvisational movement. No mailed hard-copies will be accepted.    

 

  • Letter of Recommendation | 1 Current Dance Teacher
    Letter from at least 1 current dance teacher describing your level of skill, dedication, character or other relevant information. Teacher must submit this letter directly to:

AUDITION PROCESS

There are 4 ways to audition for the Training Program:

  • Immersive Audition | San Francisco, CA
  • Individually Scheduled Audition | San Francisco, CA
  • National Audition Tour | In a City Near You
  • Video Audition | For Students who cannot attend in-person

 
We highly encourage participants to attend an in-person audition. However, we understand that this may not be possible for some dancers, and offer a Video Audition option.

DRESS CODE: There is no dress code for the Alonzo King LINES Ballet | Training Program, however one must wear tasteful, form-fitting dance or athletic wear, no restriction of color and style. Hair must be neatly styled away from the face and neck. Ballet slippers are required for class. Although pointe work is seldom requested, bring pointe shoes.

IMMERSIVE AUDITION

Experience a full afternoon workshop intensive at our Downtown San Francisco home. Get a glance into a day in the life of our Training Program Students. This immersive experience consists of a ballet class, repertory investigation, and explorative improvisation movement with one of our celebrated faculty members.

INDIVIDUALLY SCHEDULED AUDITION

Join us at our Downtown San Francisco home on a date convenient for your schedule. Take a ballet class with one of our esteemed faculty members alongside our very own Training Program students. Classes generally occur on Monday – Friday, but are subject to space and availability.

NATIONAL AUDITION TOUR

In a City Near You
Audition Fees:
$35 – Early Registration | Online Before Day of Audition

Join us on the road in a city near you! Our National Audition Tour sessions consist of an abbreviated ballet class, repertoire, and improvisation.

  • Check-in begins 1 hour before audition starts.
  • Online registration is highly encouraged. Your audition results will be processed faster using this method.
  • In-person registration is subject to space and availability.

Join us on the road for our National Audition Tour! Each year we travel across the country searching for the next generation of dancers and artists.

 

Video Audition

Deadline: March 15, 2019
Audition Fee: $50
  

Students unable to attend an in-person audition may audition via video. Video auditions are accepted on a rolling basis until the deadline.

Audition footage should be no longer than 10 minutes in length — with the main focus on your center and solo work. Please include:

  • Minimal barre work | 1 Side Only
  • Center adagio
  • Pirouettes
  • Petite allegro
  • Grand allegro
  • Pointe work | If Applicable
  • Solo | 2 minutes of contemporary and/or improvisational movement — either your choreography or someone else’s — highlighting your movement quality and artistic choices.

 

Submit

AFTER YOUR AUDITION

Audition results are sent via email on a rolling basis. Candidates should expect to receive their results 2-4 weeks after their audition date.

Note: If you have not received an email within 4 weeks, please make sure to check all email addresses affiliated with your account and all junk mail folders for emails from training-program@linesballet.org. If you still have not received notification, please contact us. Include the student’s full name, audition location, and primary email provided at registration in your email.
