Alonzo King LINES Ballet | Training Program 2021

AUDITION SEASON BEGINS IN JANUARY 2021

Register and audition for a transformative 2 years immersed in artistic investigation, technical growth and personal discovery!

  • Acceptance is by audition only.
  • Candidates must be 17 years of age at the time of the audition in order to be considered.
  • Candidates must complete their high school degree or equivalent prior to entering the program.

$45 | Individually Scheduled Audition with LINES Ballet | Training Program

REQUIRED MATERIALS

All prospective students must submit the following materials:

  • Headshot | No larger than 5 MB

 

  • Letter of Intent Describe your aspirations and intentions as an artist. How do you believe the Training program will help you achieve these goals?

 

  • Dance Resume | Training, School, Performance History

 

 
  • Contemporary Solo | Video Link Submit a current 2-minute video link of your contemporary and/or improvisational movement.  
     

 

  • Letter of Recommendation | 1 Current Dance Teacher Letter from at least 1 current dance teacher describing your level of skill, dedication, character or other relevant information. Teacher must submit this letter directly to:

AUDITION PROCESS

There are 3 ways to audition for the Training Program:

  • Immersive Weekend Audition
  • Video Audition
  • Individually Scheduled Audition

We highly recommend attending the Immersive Weekend Audition to experience a taste of the Training Program.


DRESS CODE: There is no dress code for the Alonzo King LINES Ballet | Training Program, however one must wear tasteful, form-fitting dance or athletic wear, no restriction of color and style. Hair must be neatly styled away from the face and neck. Wear appropriate footwear for the floor and space you are using.

ONLINE IMMERSIVE WEEKEND AUDITION

March 20 & 21, 2021 | 9am – 3pm PST
Join us for a two-day immersive weekend and experience our revered LINES faculty! It is an authentic glance into the transformative approach that is Alonzo King LINES Ballet education. This first-hand experience into our distinguished training will include classes in ballet, contemporary, GYROKINESIS®, repertory investigation, and explorative improvisation.

Video Audition

Video auditions are accepted on a rolling basis until April 30, 2021. We understand the challenges of creating a video in an unconventional space. Please safely execute what you can. The intention is to show technical clarity, placement and understanding. Audition footage should be no longer than 8 minutes in length and must include 5-6 minutes of a ballet barre with minimal center work and 1-2 minutes of a contemporary/improvisation solo.

  • Barre work | 1 Side Only
  • Center adagio
  • Pirouettes | if possible
  • Solo | 1-2 minutes of contemporary and/or improvisational movement highlighting your personal movement quality.

INDIVIDUALLY SCHEDULED VIRTUAL AUDITION

Schedule a virtual audition class with one of our esteemed faculty members. Morning classes will be taken alongside our very own Training Program students. The Tuesday evening audition class is an Open Dance Center ballet class. All classes are adjudicated by our Summer and Training Program Director.

  • Classes available on Tuesday, Thursday or Friday mornings (PT) until March 19, 2021.
  • Tuesday Evening classes (PT) available until March 16, 2021.

AFTER YOUR AUDITION

Audition results are sent via email on a rolling basis. Candidates should expect to receive their results 2-4 weeks after their audition date.
Note: If you have not received an email within 4 weeks, please make sure to check all email addresses affiliated with your account and all junk mail folders for emails from training-program@linesballet.org. If you still have not received notification, please contact us. Include the student’s full name, audition location, and primary email provided at registration in your email.
