Join Margot Rose Lederer as she introduces you to some of the cultures of Indonesia. She will then teach you three dance traditions, with a focus on mask traditions, allowing students to learn about character types through movement.
Margot Rose Lederer is a 25-year career professional in the field of local and international community and economic development. She has worked within the public, private, and non-profit sectors and is a lifelong classical Indonesian performing arts professional. Margot began her studies of West Javanese, Central Javanese, and Balinese dance in Berkeley, CA in 1974. She developed a passion for the West Javanese style, with its dynamic interplay between the dancer and the drummer who leads the Gamelan orchestra. She spent two years furthering her studies under Irawati Durban Ardjo, one of the leading dancers and teachers in West Java since the 1960s. Margot has also performed and taught dance while living in Australia.
