LINES BALLET STUDENT MATINEE

OCTOBER 18, 2023

Alonzo King LINES Ballet invites grades 3rd–12th to YBCA’s Blue Shield of California Theater to experience a 30-minute contemporary ballet performance followed by a lecture demonstration and artist Q&A.

Students can experience exquisite moments from Following the Subtle Current Upstream and Dust and Light, two iconic ballets from the dance company’s 42-year history. Afterwards, LINES Ballet’s Artistic Director Alonzo King and the company dancers will give a brief demonstration of contemporary and classical ballet, discussing how they generate movement and dances that highlight the uniqueness of each artist. The dancers will get everyone moving at their seats, and then several students will be invited on stage to generate movement for the dancers to learn and perform. The student matinee will wrap up with a Q&A with Alonzo King and company dancers.
