SUMMARY:BFA Senior Solo Concert
DESCRIPTION:Join us in celebrating the artistry of the Class of 2027 as they present specially commissioned solo works in the BFA Senior Solo Concert. \nSenior year in the BFA Program at Dominican University of California is full of new challenges and opportunities to grow. Each solo is an independent project\, in that the seniors choose the choreographers that they wish to work with and their rehearsals take place outside of the regular scope of the dance curriculum. \nIn the past\, students have chosen LINES faculty\, alumni\, and local and national artists as their choreographers. The dancers’ choices reflect areas or movement styles that they are curious about\, artistic relationships they wish to deepen\, and personal challenges they are eager to face. \n \nPhotography: Alonzo King LINES Ballet | BFA at Dominican | Adriana Torres Rivera\, Emely Gonzalez\, Jada Folarin-Hines\, Jordan Tauzer-Pardo\, Michelina Coates\, Nekoda Turnbull | © Doug Kaye

SUMMARY:LINES Ballet in Philadelphia
DESCRIPTION:Join our LINES Ballet company dancers in Philadelphia\, PA performing at the Zellerbach Theatre / Penn Live Arts. Grounded on more than 40 years of thought-provoking dance\, master choreographer Alonzo King’s unique artistic vision honors and advances the classical form—the linear\, mathematical\, and geometrical principles deeply rooted in the East-West continuum. \nPROGRAM \nAlonzo King LINES Ballet is pleased to present LEGACY\, a meditation on lineage\, memory\, and the unseen forces that shape who we are\, featuring choreography by Alonzo King and an original score by Grammy Award-winning musician\, bassist\, and vocalist esperanza spalding. \nUpon its sold-out premiere in April 2026\, the San Francisco Chronicle hailed LEGACY as “a rare kind of magic…that leaves a sense of compositional just-rightness\,” while Critical Dance described the dancers of LINES Ballet as “technically astonishing” with “an air of exquisite elegance.” Intimate yet expansive\, LEGACY offers audiences a deeply human experience of connection\, continuity\, and home. \nThe program will also feature Alonzo King’s critically acclaimed Ode to Alice Coltrane\, which has thrilled audiences around the world. King has been mesmerized by Alice Coltrane’s music since he was a child—he choreographed one of his very first pieces to her composition. He later returned to her body of work to create this ballet as part of “The Year of Alice” in 2024\, a nationwide tribute to her legacy that included performances and exhibits by LINES Ballet\, Impulse! Records\, Detroit Jazz Festival\, Hammer Museum\, and The New York Historical Society. The San Francisco Chronicle declared Ode to Alice Coltrane to be “a conversation thrilling to behold” that “lifts us… to a higher bliss\,” while dance critic Jen Norris proclaimed the piece “rich in kinetic brilliance.” \nJoin LINES Ballet in celebrating two of the musical world’s most iconic women artists\, whose visionary approaches continue to influence generations of musicians and listeners. \n\n \n\nPhotography: Alonzo King LINES Ballet | Dancers: Tatum Quiñónez and Company | © Chris Hardy

SUMMARY:LINES Ballet in New Orleans
DESCRIPTION:Join our LINES Ballet company dancers in New Orleans\, LA performing at Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts\, with live symphonic accompaniment! \nGrounded on more than 40 years of thought-provoking dance\, master choreographer Alonzo King’s unique artistic vision honors and advances the classical form—the linear\, mathematical\, and geometrical principles deeply rooted in the East-West continuum. \nThis winter\, our company honors legendary spiritual leader\, composer\, pianist\, and harpist Alice Coltrane and the imaginative storytelling of composer Maurice Ravel through Alonzo King’s choreography. \nKing has been mesmerized by Alice Coltrane’s music since he was a child—he choreographed one of his very first pieces to her composition. The San Francisco Chronicle declared Ode to Alice Coltrane to be “a conversation thrilling to behold” that “lifts us… to a higher bliss\,” while dance critic Jen Norris proclaimed the piece “rich in kinetic brilliance.” \nThe performance will also feature Alonzo King’s recent collaboration with the San Francisco Symphony. Here our dancers delve into the enchanting world of Ravel’s 1912 suite Ma mère l’Oye (Mother Goose)\, infusing the music with a new interpretation. “I’m not trying to recreate Mother Goose fairy tales\,” says King. “My intention is to unearth the deeper allegorical meanings beneath the fairy tales and illustrate those with dance.” \n \n\nPhotography: Alonzo King LINES Ballet | Dancers: Theo Duff-Grant with Maël Amatoul and Amanda Smith | © Chris Hardy

SUMMARY:LINES Ballet in Modesto
DESCRIPTION:Join our LINES Ballet company dancers in Modesto\, CA performing at the Gallo Center for the Arts. \n\n \n\nPhotography: Alonzo King LINES Ballet | Dancers: Joshua Francique & Maël Amatoul | © Chris Hardy

SUMMARY:LINES Ballet in San Diego
DESCRIPTION:Join our LINES Ballet company dancers in San Diego\, CA performing at San Diego Civic Theatre. Grounded on more than 40 years of thought-provoking dance\, master choreographer Alonzo King’s unique artistic vision honors and advances the classical form—the linear\, mathematical\, and geometrical principles deeply rooted in the East-West continuum. \nThis spring\, our company honors legendary spiritual leader\, composer\, pianist\, and harpist Alice Coltrane and the imaginative storytelling of composer Maurice Ravel through Alonzo King’s choreography. \nThe program will feature Alonzo King’s critically acclaimed Ode to Alice Coltrane\, which has thrilled audiences around the world. “My intention is to unearth the deeper allegorical meanings beneath the fairy tales and illustrate those with dance.” \n \n\nPhotography: Alonzo King LINES Ballet | Dancers: Marusya Madubuko\, Joshua Francique\, Theo Duff-Grant\, Maël Amatoul\, Tatum Quiñónez | © Chris Hardy
