Guided by our very own LINES Ballet Teaching Artists, Family Experiences allow families to connect with acclaimed choreographer Alonzo King’s work and philosophy while moving, grooving, and collaborating to create dances all their own. These special workshops happen in conjunction with LINES Ballet’s home seasons at YBCA and are open for families with children four years old and up. No dance experience is required, and all movers are welcome. Family experiences also include discounted tickets to select LINES Ballet season performances.

Please note: A guardian over the age of 18 must be present throughout the workshop; no drop-offs.

“Thank you so much for the wonderful family workshop! What a special thing it was to learn from and move with Lines dancers. My child and I both came away very inspired, with new ideas, more excitement to explore dance, and a deeper appreciation for dance and choreography.”

—Nicola Skidmore, parent

“I loved joining the family workshop with other families and dancers. The program was the first time that I felt I could understand dance and it provided me with frameworks that allow me to speak about dance with my children. The magical transitions from introducing ourselves, to initial presentation to shapes, and then creating recipes of our own brought us into the world of dance. And then to see dancers with decades of experience show how all of this can be used to tell stories and express emotions, literally causing my son’s jaw to drop and lead to a rich discussion about the art form with both of my children. My children and I could see the dance through a new light. Thank you.”
