Fall Season 2025
Deep River, September 18–21
ORIGINS, November 1
LINES Ballet’s fall season offers a rare chance to witness both the stage and cinematic expressions of Alonzo King’s singular artistic vision. In September, we return to Yerba Buena Center for the Arts with Deep River, Alonzo King’s internationally acclaimed masterpiece that has thrilled audiences around the world. Then, in November, join us at SFMOMA for an exclusive screening of ORIGINS, Drea Cooper’s stunning film born alongside Deep River.
DEEP RIVER

Deep River, Alonzo King’s acclaimed masterwork, fuses dance with Black spirituals and Jewish liturgical music in a powerful reflection on love, resilience, and the strength of the human spirit. Named one of Pointe Magazine’s standout performances of 2024, Deep River has been praised for its beauty, emotional depth, and spiritual force. With soaring vocals by Lisa Fischer and an evocative score by Jason Moran, Deep River is a transformative journey of compassion, beauty, and transcendence.*
*Please note: these performances will feature pre-recorded music; musicians will not perform live.
ORIGINS

Directed by Emmy Award winning filmmaker Drea Cooper, ORIGINS is an intimate portrait of Alonzo King and LINES Ballet, blending breathtaking performances with personal stories and insights. Filmed in spectacular settings from the Arizona desert to the galleries of SFMOMA, ORIGINS offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the company’s creative process. More than a documentary, ORIGINS is a poetic meditation on life, love, and the inspiring power of movement.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Alonzo King and the artists of LINES Ballet.
