Ballet

Classical ballet is the mainstay and technical foundation of Alonzo King LINES Ballet. Students will learn the very basics of ballet in a highly personalized and non-intimidating atmosphere. Body stance, body placement, musicality, and terminology will be emphasized, and students will explore ballet-based creative storytelling and pantomime.

Ballet I (5-7 year olds)
Kids will learn the basics of Ballet including the five positions and barre-like exercises for building strength, while exploring ballet-based creative storytelling and pantomime.

Ballet II (8-12 year olds)
This class will build on the basics of Ballet, including the five positions and barre-like exercises for building strength, while developing choreographic skills to learn and rework famous ballet variations.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop Dance class focuses on choreography that combines standard footwork and isolations with current dance trends. Routines are a combination of both smooth and sharp movement, playing with the dynamic of both to create interesting and unique routines that blend together different styles of hip hop.

Hip Hop I (5-7 year olds)
Kids will learn popular Hip Hop moves like The Prep, Bounce, Two Step, Humpty Dance, The Woah, and more.

Hip Hop II (8-12 year olds)
Class will focus on more advanced hip hop moves with an emphasis on choreography and freestyle.

Contemporary

Contemporary Dance at LINES has ballet technique as its foundation but pulls from a variety of dance forms through its creative incarnation. From Modern, Hip Hop, Jazz and others, Contemporary Dance fuses styles, forms, and a wide expression of movement through the creative process and the teacher’s experience.

Contemporary I (5-7 year olds)
Classes focus on a foundation of technical and somatic understanding as well as creative exploration.

Contemporary II (8-12 year olds)
Classes expand on technical skills and somatic awareness while expanding on compositional and choreographic skills.
