    World Premiere with esperanza spalding + “Ode to Alice Coltrane”

    This season, LINES Ballet is thrilled to present a landmark world premiere collaboration uniting two global artistic forces: Grammy Award-winning bassist, vocalist, and composer esperanza spalding and contemporary ballet pioneer Alonzo King, April 11–19, 2026 at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.

    spalding’s intricate harmonies and soulful improvisations will come together with King’s celebrated choreographic language, renowned for its sculptural beauty, emotional depth, and expansive sense of space. Together with the sublime dancers of LINES Ballet, they will craft a dynamic dialogue between music and movement that promises to be unlike anything else on stage today. spalding will perform live with LINES Ballet at all performances.

    And, back by popular demand, the program will also include LINES Ballet’s critically acclaimed Ode to Alice Coltrane, honoring the groundbreaking composer and musician whose artistic legacy continues to inspire.

    Join LINES Ballet as we celebrate two of the musical world’s most iconic women artists, whose visionary approaches continue to influence generations of musicians and listeners.

    Students ages 11–25 are invited to audition for our 2026 Summer Program hosted in San Francisco! We are searching for aspiring dance artists to train with our exceptional faculty this summer at LINES Dance Center. Class will be led by former LINES Ballet company dancers and faculty members Maya Harr and Caroline Rocher-Barnes.

    Our Summer Program offers a unified approach to dance training. Rooted in the philosophy of Alonzo King, our programs guide students on a collaborative journey that values risk-taking, independent thinking, problem solving through exploration, and a tenacious work ethic, expanding students’ understanding of what is possible with dance.

    The audition consists of a ballet class, LINES repertoire, and movement exploration. Wear form-fitting dancewear and style hair neatly away from your face.     SOLD OUT* – LINES Ballet Family Experience

    Families: Experience the Magic of Dance with LINES Ballet!

    Parents, caregivers, and children (ages 4-12) are invited to join us on Sunday, April 12, 2026, from 2 PM to 3:30 PM at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts for our Family Experience, an unforgettable afternoon of movement and creativity. You and your children will move, groove, and create dances with LINES Ballet’s Teaching Artists and connect with Alonzo King’s profound work. Plus, you’ll get an exclusive sneak peek of our company dancers in rehearsal on stage. The LINES Ballet Family Experience is perfect for families to explore creativity and foster a deeper connection to dance together.

    All adults and children are required to have a ticket in order to participate. Tickets are only $15 per person and space is limited, so get your tickets now!

    No dance experience is required—all movers are welcome! No drop-offs.

    Please note: Our Family Experience event does not include a ticket to the LINES Ballet performance on Sunday, April 12 at 5:00pm. Purchase a ticket to the performance.

    Summer Program Video Auditions

    If you are unable to audition with us in-person, we welcome you to submit a video audition! We are searching for aspiring dance artists to train with our exceptional faculty this summer at LINES Dance Center in San Francisco.

    Our Summer Program offers a unified approach to dance training. Rooted in the philosophy of Alonzo King, our programs guide students on a collaborative journey that values risk-taking, independent thinking, problem solving through exploration, and a tenacious work ethic, expanding students’ understanding of what is possible with dance.


    Video Requirements
    Audition footage should be no longer than 8 minutes in length. The intention is to show technical clarity, placement and understanding. Please include:

    • Barre work | 1 side only
    • Center adagio
    • Pirouettes
    • Petite & Grande Allegro
    • Solo | 1–2 minutes of contemporary or improvisational movement highlighting your movement quality and artistic choices.

    Dancers ages 11–17 are invited to come dance with us for the long holiday weekend during our LINES Youth Weekend. During this three-day intensive, students will experience the transformative approach that is an Alonzo King LINES Ballet education while working with current and former LINES Ballet company members and esteemed LINES faculty. Classes include ballet, LINES repertory, contemporary, floorwork, GYROKINESIS®, investigative improvisation, guided movement generation, & more.

    Dancers may join us for the full workshop or choose to participate for just 1 or 2 days.

    Students applying for our renowned 2026 Summer Program may also use LINES Youth Weekend as their audition. It is included in their experience!

    Dress Code
